School Holidays in October 2026: State Wise Breakdown

Uttar Pradesh School Closures

In Uttar Pradesh, Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 and Vijayadashami on October 20 are official holidays for all government and private schools. In addition to festive dates, localized school closures occur due to administrative events. For instance, school closures were mandated across districts such as Noida, Ghaziabad, and Meerut on October 23, 2026, due to the biennial Member of Legislative Council (MLC) elections. All schools from pre-primary to Class 12 suspended classes to support the polling process.

Tamil Nadu Weather Related Holidays

Heavy seasonal rainfall often leads to emergency closures in southern states. District administrations in Tiruvannamalai, Viluppuram, and Kallakurichi, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, declared emergency school closures on October 23, 2026, due to persistent downpours. Parents in coastal and rain-affected regions should continuously monitor official weather alerts and local notifications.

Delhi and Telangana Academic Breaks

Schools in Delhi observe Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra as mandatory closures, while dates like Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti and Karva Chauth are often listed as restricted holidays depending on individual school management rules. Telangana schools usually receive extended autumn breaks around Bathukamma and Dussehra, determined by the state education department calendar.
